Billboard Chart Review-2/7/13

This week's chart dated February 16 reflects the sales week of January 29-February 4.

The Billboard Hot 100:
Song                                        Position           Last Week
Thrift Shop                              1                      1          *Airplay Gainer*
Locked out of Heaven             2                      2
Scream & Shout                      3                      5
Ho Hey                                   4                      3
I knew you were trouble         5                      4
Don’t you worry child            6                      6
Beauty and a beat                   7                      7          *Pacesetter*
Fuckin Problems                     8                      10
Try                                           9                     11
Sweet Nothing                       10                     14
"Thrift Shop" keeps bossing it up at number one! I'm ready for Bruno Mars to get his ass out of the top ten. "Scream & Shout" makes a jump from 5-3, which I didn't really expect but should have; Will I Am and Britney Spears? Even though the song is boring, it's still a master collaboration. The Lumineers are starting to step back, but it's still in the top ten in its 35th week, not too shabby. I don't think "I knew you were trouble" will ever reach number one, even though it's still gaining in airplay, it also needs adequate sales. "Beauty and a Beat" is once again gaining popularity just because Nicki Minaj is featured; a collaboration with another artist can take you a long way. 'Try" has finally reached the top ten!! And so has "Sweet Nothing"!!! Anyway, now for the rest of the chart:
Maroon five rises 17-14 with "Daylight" (a really shitty song, but it's Maroon 5 so, it will reach the top ten shortly), Kelly Clarkson jumps 22-19 with "Catch My Breath", Of Monsters and Men rises 23-20 with "Little Talks" (I remember this song declining off the chart months ago. It's currently in its 37th chart week), Bruno Mars jumps 49-22 with "When I was your man", a much better offering from him. Fun falls 20-24 with "Some Nights" in its 50th chart week, Ke$ha rises 28-27 with "C'Mon", Rihanna rises 47-36 with "Pour it Up" (LOVE that song), "Somebody That I Used to Know" falls 44-47 in its 57th chart week, and "Call Me Maybe" falls 43-48 in its 50th chart week, and remember when I got excited that "Anything Could Happen" by Ellie Goulding was on the rise? Well America just took a big shit on my dreams as it falls 60-73 this week...smh.

The Billboard 200:
Album                                     Position           Last Week
Passione                                  2                      -
Heartthrob                               3                      -
Love, Charlie                          4                      -
Pitch Perfect                           5                      3
Unorthodox Jukebox              6                      8
Babel                                       7                      6
Set You Free                           8                      1
The Lumineers                        9                      2
Red                                         10                    9
I refuse to show you the number one album because it's a complete piece of shit, and as I've said before, America really needs to get their shit together. Especially since that album kept Andrea Bocelli, a true musician, from reaching number one this week. If you want to know the number one album, go to Billbard.com and look it up. Anyway, we have a lot of debuts in the top five since this year has gotten off to an oddly slow start. I'm kind of disappointed that "Pitch Perfect" is falling, that soundtrack is awesome. And yeah, the rest of the top ten is just typical February sales, as no album has made any significant leap or decline. Outside of the top ten: Adele's "21" rises 22-18 in its 102nd week, Toro y Moi's album "Anything in Return" takes this week's biggest plunge from 60-197, and well, that's pretty much it for all the exciting news. The Hot 100 will always present more excitement because singles sales are booming, but album sales are down the toilet. A setback of the digital age as people now just buy the singles instead of the entire album.
